PE News and Information
This week in P.E. (March 9-13th) we will be doing Archery with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Listening and following directions will be essential to the
success of this unit. I will be clear with students that if they don’t follow directions they will not be doing archery for the class period. My goal is to
create the safest environment possible where students can build skills and strength while using archery gear correctly.
The National Championships in Speed Stacking are in Auburn, Washington this year. It is exciting that the fastest stackers will be in Auburn on March
14 and 15th. I have included the link if you are interested in registering your stacker. There are individual stacking events, and partner and team
events. As the host state, they have encouraged stackers from Washington to participate. It would also be fun to watch their blazing fast hands stack
as well. I am going to try and make it on the 14th. If you are going down send me an email so we can try to meet up. This is the link for registering.
As always, if you can help during their class period, let me know. Thanks, Brent Roberts [email protected]

Art Explorer News
Art Explorers finished up an amazing month in the classrooms studying the life and works of Maurice Sendak. He’s well known as the author/
illustrator of, “Where the wild things are”. The children drew and water colored their very own monster. We glued their monsters on a boat and
created each teacher as Max, the King of ALL wild things! Great job! In March, we’ll study the amazing works of Georgia O’Keeffe. You too, will want
to stop and smell the flowers once you see the children’s creations gracing the hallways.

Supervision Before and After School Reminders!
Please be reminded that playground supervision begins at 9:10 am. Students (unless attending a before school class, safety patrol or eating school
breakfast) are not to enter the building prior to the 9:25 bell. There is NO supervision of students after school. Students should either ride their school
bus, be met by their parent/caregiver, picked up promptly or walk/ride home when the 3:40 dismissal bell rings. Safety is our number one priority!

Thank You For The Record Turnout of Student Scientists at STEM Night!
We had record attendance of our Laurelhurst scientists on Wednesday night “Countdown to Science Fair” STEM Event. Students from kindergarten
to fifth grade came out with their parents to enjoy and engage in a night of STEM learning. It was a night of cool and interesting experiments, star
and planet gazing under a clear night sky (thanks to the weather spirits!) and exploring microscopic mysteries. It reinforced the scientific concepts
that Laurelhurst students had discussed and experimented with all week leading up to the event during library time. In the library, student scientists
had been learning about the scientific method to help them prepare for the science fair in April.
A huge thank you to the crew of parent, 5th grade student and teacher volunteers who conducted the experiments at the event, the staff for supporting
this event in their classrooms, and our partners at the Cascade Science Foundation and Seattle Astronomical Society.
Thank you again for helping to build STEM power at Laurelhurst! -The STEM Night Team

The district has created a new assignment tool and is NOT sending assignment letters.
The district has created an easy-to-use Assignment Look-Up Tool on the Seattle Public Schools Admissions website
( allowing families greater ease in identifying their student’s assigned school both this year and the next
school year.
Families will no longer be mailed a next-year assignment letter for each student.
For questions about admissions, contact Enrollment Services at (206) 252-0760.
