Return To In-Person Learning, Message From The Principal

We are excited for the first day of in-person school tomorrow! You may begin lining up at 7:45 AM for the morning cohort and 11:30 AM for the afternoon cohort. Please wear a mask and follow the 6-foot physical distancing guidelines. When students enter the playground, there are signs posted that have the teacher’s names on them. You will line up with your homeroom teacher. Please no families on the playground at drop off. One family member may come on the playground to pick up their student at the pick-up time. 10:45 AM for the morning cohort and 2:30 PM for the afternoon cohort. Students will not be allowed to play on the playground before or after school.

The Return to School packet was emailed and available for pickup last week. There are forms in there that must be filled out prior to your student(s) entering the building. Please review the packet before arriving at school. You should receive an email in the morning with the attestation (daily health screening) form linked to it. This must be filled out by 7:00 AM every day regardless of which cohort you are in. There is a QR code in the packet that you can scan if the email does not arrive in time. This must be completed before entering the building.

  • Pro-tip: Take a screen shot of the approval screen on the attestation form to show at the entry gate.

This is the first time any of us have opened or attended school with so many moving pieces and requirements. Please be understanding as the drop off and pick-up will be time consuming and possibly a little clunky. We will do our best to be efficient and the process will get easier as we all learn how it works.

Virtual Library Book Fair

We are excited to host our annual book fair with Usborne Books & More, March 22 – 26. We love the quality and educational value these books offer to our families.

Once you have reached the site, you will need to register in the top right-hand corner. You can also scroll down to the middle of the home page to find the link to the online catalog. By Friday all of the students will have seen the book fair presentation and have a link to the catalog in their Seesaw activity page. Once you have ordered, your books will ship right to your home

Our school benefits from the book fair, so it is win-win to purchase books for your home, knowing your child will benefit here at school as well!

Winter Sing Along

On Thursday, December 17th, at 6:30n PM we will have a vocal music concert featuring all Laurelhurst students under the direction of Ms. Elisabeth, our vocal music teacher. A meeting link will be sent out soon, make sure you’re ready to sing along with a copy of the lyrics!

Giving Wreathe

Laurelhurst Elementary School families are kind and generous, especially during the holiday season. Ms. Rosen, LES Counselor, is collecting information so that all LES families can have December holiday gifts. Please select a student, or multiple students, from the list below to gift a toy, book, and article of clothing to this year.

Please include the child ID number (e.g. 1A, 4C) on the gift card or shipping label. Gifts must be received by Friday, December 11th, but we encourage you to deliver gifts as soon as possible. Younger siblings have also been included so if you miss shopping for little ones, this is your chance.

If you would prefer to donate to the shopping fund, the PTA Outreach team will do final shopping to fill in any gaps the weekend of December 12th and 13th. Donations can be made via the PayPal Outreach at [email protected].

Food Drive

Monday Nov 16 – Wednesday Nov 18
We are inviting families to donate items for festive, family Thanksgiving Meals. Items can be dropped off at the school entrance collection bins Monday – Wednesday during school office hours. The collection bins will be moved to the play court so families may make donations when they pick-up or return their library books. We suggest each grade focus on the following items:
Kindergarten: pie crusts, pie crust mix, canned pumpkin, fruit pie fillings
First Grade:
canned yams, canned veggies, cranberry sauce
Second Grade:
canned soups, cornbread mix, crackers
Third Grade:
stuffing mix, instant mashed potatoes, gravy
Fourth Grade:
pasta, pasta sauce, rice, beans
Fifth Grade:
family sized cereal boxes, boxed milk, juice

Walk-tober 2020

Each October the Laurelhurst PTA sponsors “Walk-tober”, a walk, bike or roll to school month. We’re changing our traditional walk to school contest to a move at home contest to encourage kids and families to stay active.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Record the number of minutes each day that your student walks, bikes, scooters, or otherwise moves on the Walk-tober Calendar for the month of October.
  • Report back at the end of the month in PE class.
  • Celebrate! We will recognize our active students and celebrate our activity the first week of November!

Picture Day

Tuesday, September 22nd, is picture day at Laurelhurst. Appointments are available between 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM https://bit.ly/3hREDwS

Pictures are being taken on the Playcourt, please enter from the South Playground. Remember to wear your masks until directed otherwise and please do not gather on the playgrounds as they are closed.

Pickup Student Materials on 9/2 and 9/3

Student books, workbooks and manipulatives have been gathered, bagged, and organized.

  • Families will arrive on the Laurelhurst South Playground at their assigned time. You will walk through the south doors of the playcourt and find the table(s) marked with your child(ren)’s teachers name. Bags will be organized alphabetically with your child’s name. Please grab your bags and exit at the opposite end of the playcourt.
  • For families who have children in the 3rd – 5th grades – After you pick up your bag, please see Mr. Brown at the end of the playcourt to checkout a device for your child(ren)
  • We ask that families send only one family member for each student, if possible.
  • Be symptom free.
  • Wear a face covering at all time.
  • Please do not congregate on either Laurelhurst playgrounds leaving the area as quickly as possible.
