News from around the PTA

DIRECT GIVE started Thursday, October 1st
Get Ready, Get Set… Go!  Look for the Direct Give packet which came home in your child’s backpack on Wednesday, September 30th.  The Direct Give is Laurelhurst PTA’s simple, fast, efficient fall fundraiser where 100% of the money raised goes directly to the PTA for the benefit of our students.  The funds make possible enrichment programs such as Art Explorers, Kim Newall art, instrumental & vocal music, field trips, tutors, Classic Books, supplies and so much more!

Online donations encouraged!

Look for these Direct Give highlights:
** Once again, the grade with the most red donation envelopes returned by the last day, wins a Pizza Party and extra recess!
** Drawing for Candy Corn Family at Kid Carnival from all envelopes returned by Friday, October 9th.
** Matching Mondays!  Thanks to generous Laurelhurst families, you can double your donation by giving online on Monday, October 5th and
Monday, October 12th
** New “Grandparent Day” and “Neighbor Day” when you will receive email blasts that can easily be forwarded to these special people who care about Laurelhurst!
Direct Give is ONLY TWO WEEKS this year: October 1st-16th.
Let’s all rally and show support for our students and school.  Your donation – big or small – will allow the PTA to continue exciting enrichment programs at Laurelhurst.

2016 PTA Auction: Additional Volunteers Needed

Planning for Auction 2016 has already begun! The Auction Committee has an immediate need to fill a few key positions. We are looking for TWO Data Chairs and TWO – THREE creative and driven people to work on the Procurement Team.

We need everyone’s help to support the school’s largest fundraiser of the year. The auction raises 70% of the school’s PTA budget, and it takes each and everyone of us to raise these funds. Being involved in the auction not only supports our kids, but it’s a fun way to meet new friends.

If you are interested on working on the auction, there are other fun jobs still available. Contact Bev Kelleher: [email protected]com
Mark Your Calendars!
The PTA Auction will be Friday, March 18th 2016, at Husky Stadium,
Club Husky

Get Ready For Walktober/International Walk To School Month!

It’s here! Walktober is a month long campaign where students commit to walking, biking, scootering, unicycling or riding the bus to school. Any non motorized, active commute to school counts. Your small actions can make a difference. You will help reduce traffic around the school, making us all more safe. Research show that kids who walk to school are more focused in class and do better in school. For every mile you walk or bike a pound of pollution is reduced.
Tracking calendar was sent home and extra copies can be picked up at school.
Join us for the Walktober Kick off Event, Monday October 5th at 3:00 at Laurelhurst Park. We will be taking community walk to celebrate the onset of Walktober. Remember, there are great prizes for participating in Walktober so track your participation on the calendar.

News from the Teachers / Staff

Bus Zones
Reminder: Please do not load/unload in the bus zone on 47th. Even if it appears clear, buses come quickly and need that space clear. They are instructed to honk if cars are in their space and there’s been a lot of honking  this year.  Please follow our load/unload plan as outlined in the first day packet.

Lost and Found
Warm weather always brings lots of additions to the lost and found. The lost and found is located just inside the South Playground doors. We always check for names on items but 90% of the items have no names on them and get donated at the end of each month. The students have a Lost and Found fashion show during lunch as an attempt to get the items back to the rightful owners. BTW, currently we have a very nice skateboard in L&F. If you’re missing a skateboard, please see Mr. Roos.
