NEW this year:  Math Club for K-2!

3:45-4:45, Room 3

The Purpose of Math Club is to develop students’ level of Math skills and knowledge.  This will be accomplished by using fun games and activities. Students will work cooperatively in teams and to start our club will be using the Zeno Math Power Data Gathering Curriculum! Math Club will also support classroom learning.

Math Club will meet two Mondays most every month, with our first meeting on Monday, September 28. Please return the attached registration form by Wednesday September 23 to your student’s teacher or email to Beth Cogan @ [email protected].  Registration is open to all Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Students. We will need to cap the number to the first 24 registrants for space and supervision concerns.

Students will be picked up by their parent at 4:45 in room 3 or be brought to LASER Childcare if they are enrolled there.  Please remember this is not a babysitting service. Club members are expected to attend as often as they can, participate in scheduled activities and behave as wonderful Laurelhurst Students!

The theme this year is….

‘Let Your Imagination Fly’
The PTA provides the following tools to help make participation in this National PTA and WSPTA Cultural Arts Competition fun and easy for students and parents alike.

The form for signing up will be available in the library for parents to pick up and children who are interested will also be able to take a form home after the Creative Workshop.

Creative Workshop:
Students will have the opportunity to explore ideas about this year’s program theme, ‘Let Your Imagination Fly’ with the one and only Mr. Brown during their classroom Library time. There will be a worksheet available for their use to support them in organizing their thoughts and exploring ways they might express themselves.  If you would like to assist in your child’s class during this library time please let me know (see email below).

Material Packets:
We will preassemble basic material packets, at no cost to families, for each category to go home with your kids once they are signed up.

Key Dates:
Sign-up forms should be returned to the library, packets will be available to be picked up from the library and final artwork will be submitted to the library.

News from the Parent Community

Sign Up for Nerf Soccer (for Kids 6 and under)!
We’d love to keep the Nerf Soccer team fun going, so if any of you are interested we’d love to see you!

Note: If you have not done this before, it’s very low-key. It’s a great way to introduce your kids to team sports and work on basic skills. Include your friends!  LCC needs four teams to make it a go, but they would prefer six teams.

Practices start sometime end of Sept. and games start in Oct. All practices and games at Laurelhurst gym.

Call the Laurelhurst Community Center to sign-up.  206-684-7529

News from LASER

We are pleased to offer LASER day camp as a potential option for those who need all day care for their children during this time.  Space is limited.  There are 90 spots available at Bryant Elementary and 80 spots available at Sand Point Elementary.  Due to staffing, we are unable to provide care at Laurelhurst.  We will take registrations on a first come, first served basis.

In the event that negotiations reach a conclusion, LASER will resume our standard before and after school schedule when school is in session.

LASER Day Camp rates are the same as summer rates ($45/day/child) and camp hours are from 8am – 6pm.  The web hosting service we are utilizing shows that camp is free, but that is not the case.

Care is available FIRST for families currently enrolled in LASER Before/After School programming for the 2015-2016 school year.

Below are the links to reserve your spot at Bryant and Sand Point.  You must reserve tickets for each child for each day you’d like care. If you have more than one child, you can adjust the quantity on the order form.  When creating your tickets, please enter your child’s name and age when prompted.

Sand Point:

For questions, please contact Sequoia Hartman at [email protected] or call 1-206-525-9160.
